Introductory Question From Documents Section
Question: What meaning might you attach to the use of animals as totems or symbols of a particular group or individual?
Answer: Based on the description from chapter 2, I believe that the use of animals as totems or symbols were used in efforts to show a strong and powerful group or individual compared to weaker and less powerful group or individual. This may be seen as a unicorn seal has been discovered numerous times on clay tags attached to bundles of good. Thus suggesting that those who owned these bundles may have been involved in trade or commerce. Continuously, it has been thought that the seal of a bull was used to represent a group or individual that was powerful and influential, especially because the seal of the bull has presented itself as rare to find. Therefore, I believe that animal symbols and totems were used to show whether someone was of importance or not.
